Scotland’s Great Trails
These long-distance walking paths have been grouped under the umbrella of organisation managed by Scottish Natural Hertitage. A number of national and regional bodies come together to maintain the paths and way-marking, with the aim of encouraging the enjoyment of the natural environment in a safe and responsible manner. Scotland’s Walks currently has five of these trails available and over the coming months, we will be adding more.
Celebrating 40 years of the West Highland Way
Scotland’s premier long-distance route enjoys world-class status and attracts an international clientele. The 96-mile path takes in some of the most ruggedly beautiful scenery in Scotland, far from the cares and pressures of modern-day living. Forty years ago, Tom Hunter and his associates proposed an idea for a long-distance route, in order to encourage city dwellers to get into the countryside and reconnect with the natural environment on their doorstep.
